Ronaldinho Blasts “Worst” Brazil Squad Preview

Ronaldinho has criticised the Copa América squad for their apparent lack of passion and commitment to the team’s jersey. Ronaldinho, the legendary Brazilian footballer who achieved great success in international tournaments, expressed his disappointment on Instagram, referring to it as a sombre moment for fans of Brazilian football.

In a recent post on Instagram, Ronaldinho expressed his thoughts on the Brazilian roster, describing it as one of the weaker teams in recent years. He also mentioned that he wouldn’t feel inclined to celebrate even if they were to win the tournament, as he finds it challenging to muster the enthusiasm to watch the games.

“It’s difficult to find the energy to watch the games. This is maybe one of the worst teams in recent years, it has no respectable leaders, just average players for the most part. I’ve been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I’ve never seen a situation as bad as this.”

There’s a lack of love for the shirt, a lack of determination and most importantly [a lack of] football. The performance has been one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame. That’s why I declare I’m giving up here. I won’t watch any CONMEBOL Copa América games and I won’t celebrate if Brazil win.”

Brazil has been struggling since their defeat to Croatia in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. After that, the Brazilians managed to achieve a record of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses in nine matches in 2023.

During this period, the team experienced a series of setbacks, including their first three-match losing streak since 2001 and a disappointing home defeat in a World Cup qualifying match against Argentina, with a score of 1-0.

Many of those challenges arose when Fernando Diniz stepped in as the temporary head coach, taking over from Ramon Menezes, who had assumed the role temporarily after Tite’s departure following the World Cup defeat.

Initially, there were speculations about Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti potentially joining Brazil in 2024. However, in December, he decided to extend his contract with Los Blancos until 2026. Dorival Júnior was appointed as the permanent head coach in January.

“I am here today representing a highly successful team, one that serves as a source of inspiration for many across the globe,” Júnior said during his introductory press conference. “And it must win once more. The strength of Brazilian football lies in its ability to constantly reinvent itself.”

“This current situation is proving to be quite challenging. We discovered the path to triumph through the art of Brazilian football. And we must rediscover that feeling once more. From this point forward, we must seek out solutions.”

With the Copa America on the horizon, Brazil finds themselves facing a challenge as they have to cope with the absence of several important players due to injuries. Ederson has unfortunately been sidelined due to a fractured eye socket sustained during Manchester City’s 2-0 victory against Tottenham on May 14.

Neymar is currently in the process of recovering from a torn ACL that he sustained during a World Cup qualifying loss in October of last year. Last month, Lucas Paquetá faced charges of breaching betting rules from England’s Football Association.

However, he was permitted to participate in the Copa America representing Brazil. Despite these recent problems, Brazil maintains its position as the fifth-ranked team in the FIFA world rankings. It’s a bit below the country’s usual standards, but it does indicate that there are numerous reasons to feel hopeful.

One standout player is Vinicius Júnior, who has emerged as a strong contender for the prestigious Ballon d’Or. His remarkable performance in the Champions League, where he helped Real Madrid secure victory and even scored in the final against Borussia Dortmund, has certainly caught the attention of many.

Vinicius Júnior is set to shine as Brazil’s top player during the tournament taking place from June 20 to July 15. It remains to be seen whether Ronaldinho’s scepticism will be proven right as Brazil kicks off the Copa America on June 24 against Costa Rica.

The Copa América tournament kicks off for Brazil with a match against Costa Rica on June 24. They will be joined by Colombia and Paraguay in Group D.
